Published on the occasion of Dor Guez's solo exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, The Sick Man of Europe: The Painter is the first chapter of the artist's ambitious five-part project examining the interrupted lives of creative figures whose artistic practices were reshaped by war. Centered on the testimony of a Tunisian-Jewish painter conscripted during the 1973 Yom Kippur War, the publication combines film stills, photographs, archival documents, scanograms, and recorded conversations to investigate memory, trauma, and the construction of historical narratives. Featuring texts by Achim Borchardt-Hume and Dor Guez, the book extends the exhibition into print while reflecting the artist's ongoing research into archives, storytelling, and the fragile relationship between personal testimony and official history.
