The Big Rot is ZONE’s second collective photobook, bringing together 46 artists from around the world around an intentionally unstable premise: what has been left to rot inside the archive. Edited, conceived and designed by Ali Beşikçi, the book turns away from the polished, immediate and visibly contemporary, digging instead into photographs that survived neglect, hesitation or their own apparent uselessness. Featuring works by Alaa Mansour, Cemil Batur Gökçeer, Marisol Mendez, Marco Marzocchi, Wouter Van de Voorde, Yana Kononova, Monty Kaplan and others, The Big Rot operates as a collective archaeology of discarded images—photographs using light to speak about darkness, suggesting rather than showing.
