Istehlal is the debut album from the Mohamad Zatari Trio — oud master Mohamad Zatari (Syria), tar/ setar improviser Sara Eslami (Iran) and tabla player Avadhut Kasinadhuni (India/Romania) — released on Zehra, Berlin’s bridge between North African, Middle Eastern and Asian sound worlds. Drawing from rich traditional repertoire and contemporary sensibilities, the record journeys through eleven pieces that meld refracted folk forms with immersive, cross-cultural interplay. Rooted in shared lineage and global musical currents alike, Istehlal embodies a dialogue between past masters like Riad Al-Sunbati and Hossein Alizadeh and a fresh generation intent on reimagining traditional music’s place in the present day.
